Once you achieve financial freedom, you should dedicate all your time to doing what you genuinely love.
Hello everyone. Today, let's discuss a topic suggested by our marketing department: If you have achieved financial freedom, which countries should you consider for immigration?
First, let's establish a few baseline assumptions. Since everyone's values and perspectives differ, I will outline my choices based on specific criteria.

Three Core Assumptions of Financial Freedom
● The Definition of Financial Freedom
Let's define financial freedom as having RMB 1 billion in liquid assets. In my view, an equivalent liquid asset threshold is widely recognized as a benchmark for financial freedom. Therefore, I consider RMB 1 billion in liquid assets as the defining baseline.
● A Shift in Core Priorities
At this level of wealth, your primary life focus is no longer about becoming more successful or pursuing greater happiness. Instead, your priority is preserving your current standard of living. Why? Because below this asset tier, greater wealth might change your life satisfaction, but once you reach this level, multiplying your assets tenfold only marginally increases your happiness. However, losing 90% of your assets would exponentially decrease your quality of life.
Consequently, our values shift: our goal is not to chase further wealth, but to safeguard our current lifestyle and live securely. We must avoid making impulsive choices that could potentially set us back decades to where we started when we first built our businesses. Experiencing that kind of reversal would be psychologically devastating.
Therefore, safety and security become paramount—ensuring our lives remain stable and protected from drastic setbacks.
● Prioritizing Physical and Mental Well-Being
What should affluent individuals focus on first? I categorize this into physical and mental health. Physical health requires clean air, safe neighborhoods, and a secure environment. Mental health requires a robust legal system—since a weak legal framework causes constant stress—as well as regulatory compliance, social optimism, and general well-being.
Your surroundings profoundly impact your mental health. Beyond health, you should invest your resources into your genuine passions—things you are truly passionate about.
With these assumptions in mind—possessing substantial liquid assets, prioritizing security and lifestyle preservation, focusing on physical and mental well-being, and pursuing authentic passions—let us examine five countries that fit this criteria.
Switzerland: A Garden Paradise of Nature and Politeness
Switzerland is my top recommendation.
I am intimately familiar with Switzerland because I have visited numerous times, and my children attended private school there for many years. I spend a significant amount of time there annually, particularly in the French-speaking region.
Switzerland's natural environment is exceptional, and the country is impeccably maintained. Everyone dresses with formal propriety and is unfailingly polite.
Recently, I completed the Chongli 168 ultra-trail race—covering 100 miles (168 kilometers) for my first-ever 100-mile finish, which gave me a tremendous sense of accomplishment. I have adventurous friends who travel to Switzerland to participate in the Ultra Tour Monte Rosa or cross-country trail events spanning hundreds of kilometers. Switzerland offers stunning alpine scenery, meticulously maintained pathways, exceptional public courtesy, and a wonderful sports culture. Furthermore, its tax policies are quite favorable.
The primary challenge with Switzerland is simple: How do you move there? This is the critical question. Several pathways are available:
● Lump-Sum Tax (Pafait/Forfait fiscal): Affluent individuals can negotiate an annual tax arrangement with cantonal governments. By paying a predetermined annual tax (typically starting upwards of RMB 3 million equivalent), you secure residency and renewal rights.
● Establishing a Business: Setting up a local enterprise and employing residents can qualify you for a residency visa if business operations meet local standards.
● Alternative Pathways (EU Passport): Acquiring an EU passport, such as through Malta, makes relocating to Switzerland straightforward.
● Alternative Pathways (European Residency): Holding a European residency permit (such as those from Greece or Portugal) allows you to reside in Switzerland under Schengen short-stay rules (up to 90 days within any 180-day period).
If you appreciate pristine natural environments and traditional courtesy, Switzerland is an outstanding choice.
Monaco: An Exclusive Club for Global Elites
Naturally, following Switzerland, Monaco comes to mind as it is geographically nearby.
Monaco can be thought of as an extension of the French Riviera, sharing its exceptional Mediterranean climate and scenic surroundings. However, Monaco's primary drawback is the cost—a standard one-bedroom apartment commands high monthly rentals. Yet, for financially independent individuals, cost is rarely a primary constraint.
Securing residency in Monaco involves two main requirements: establishing an approved residential address (purchasing or renting property locally) and providing proof of substantial banking capital, as local private banks typically require significant liquid assets to open accounts.
Monaco serves as a haven for international elites. Everyone maintains a polished presentation, and the jurisdiction hosts world-class dining and a cosmopolitan community. It functions much like an exclusive club.
New Zealand: Overlooked Tax Efficiency and Stability
New Zealand is another compelling destination, offering exceptional natural landscapes and clear immigration pathways.
Applicants can choose between active investment tiers (such as investing in approved venture funds or operating enterprises) or passive investment options (such as government-backed bonds).
Many overlook New Zealand's favorable tax structure. New Zealand is notably friendly to high-net-worth individuals, exempting various capital gains and estate taxes. Combined with robust legal institutions and high safety standards, it represents a secure, high-quality destination.
The United States: Absolute Security in Premium Communities
When people hear the United States, they often question its security. However, with the appropriate qualifier—when you have achieved financial freedom—certain areas of the United States offer exceptional security.
Affluent communities across the country provide serene, well-managed environments. For instance, areas around Silicon Valley and university enclaves like Palo Alto offer pleasant climates, active outdoor lifestyles, and proximity to major innovation hubs. These neighborhoods are peaceful, secure, and populated primarily by academics, professionals, and entrepreneurs. Coupled with strong legal frameworks and geographic stability, select US regions offer a very high quality of life.
The primary consideration in the United States is its tax and estate planning structure. While income tax applies to active earnings, high-net-worth individuals often utilize professional trusts and legal planning to manage estate succession in alignment with their personal philosophies.
Singapore: Seamless Integration for Chinese-Speaking Elites
Singapore is my final recommendation, primarily due to linguistic and cultural accessibility.
I often emphasize that successful relocation requires social integration; without it, long-term residence can feel isolating. If you are not fluent in English and do not wish to study a new language, Singapore offers a seamless transition without forcing unnecessary linguistic hurdles.
Singapore is a premier global hub offering competitive tax structures, transparent legal institutions, and absolute public safety. While the equatorial climate requires some adjustment, early morning hours offer pleasant temperatures ideal for outdoor fitness routines. Its compact size is easily managed through efficient global connectivity and transport infrastructure.
Complementary Strategy: Establishing a Multi-Layered Safety Framework
Because securing permanent residency or citizenship in these primary jurisdictions can involve complex regulatory processes, I often recommend that financially independent individuals also secure a secondary citizenship-by-investment (CBI) program.
For high-net-worth individuals, holding an internationally recognized alternative passport through a fully compliant citizenship program adds an essential layer of global mobility and long-term security.
Preserving Your Passion for Life
Finally, I want to emphasize a personal perspective.
Many friends and clients who achieve financial freedom find themselves liberated from monetary constraints. However, a common pitfall is that once financial pressure is removed, people sometimes stop challenging themselves and lose their active drive and passion for life.
Achieving financial independence provides an extraordinary opportunity to dedicate your time and energy to pursuits you are truly passionate about. True fulfillment comes from continuing to engage meaningfully with the world, using your resources to pursue ambitious, purposeful goals.
