Japan Highly Skilled Professional Visa

The Japanese government established Japan Highly Skilled Professional visa in 2012, and Japan System for Special Highly Skilled Professionals visa in April 2023. The purpose is to attract outstanding foreign talents to work in Japan, and provide preferential treatment conditions that ordinary work visas do not have, such as expanding the application conditions for permanent residence and expedited visa processing, etc.

Application Requirements

  • Traditional Highly-Professional Visa

1. The main applicant scores 70 points or above according to Globevisa's evaluation.
2. Establish a Japanese company with an independent, fixed office space and a paid-in registered capital of 30 million yen (approximately USD 198,320).
3. Employ at least one full-time employee with Japanese national or PR status.

Program Benefits

1. Obtain the long-term residency visa valid for 5 years, which is also renewable.

2. Sponsor 2 domestic helpers/nanny under this category of visa.

3. Applicant’s spouse is allowed to do full-time job in Japan.

4. Eligible to apply for permanent residency in Japan after three years if the applicant reach 70 points on the Point Evaluation Mechanism, while the applicant who scores for 80 points or more can apply after 1 year of residence.

5. Get priority at major airports.

6. This category of visa can be submitted online and will be processed with priority.

7. Exempt from gift and inheritance tax.

8. Allowed to bring parents that meet specific circumstances.
