On December 7, 2024, Australia officially launched the National Innovation Visa (Subclass 858)—a permanent visa (green card) designed to attract top-tier global talent to drive technological innovation, job creation, and economic growth. This fast-track PR pathway allows exceptional individuals in targeted sectors to secure Australian permanent residency for themselves and their families based solely on their talent and achievements. With a total family cost of around 57,000 USD, the program requires no English test, no waiting list, and no interview. Processing can be as fast as 1 year.

Application Requirements

  • An annual salary of 183,100 AUD or more;

  • In areas aligned with Australia's targets (critical technologies, health industries, renewable energy and low emission technologies, agri-food and agri-technology, defence capabilities and space technology, education, financial services and fintech, infrastructure and transport, resources);

  • International or national level achievements.

NIV is divided into two tracks.

1st track: The target field of industry outstanding talent (similar to the early GTI model).

2nd track: Startup investors (similar to the early 188 venture capital model, but with higher requirements than 188).

However, no matter which one, there must be an Australian nominee when submitting the application.

Program Benefits

No age, education, or English requirements; the entire process can be completed without entering Australia.

High cost-effectiveness: For around 57,000 USD, the whole family can get Australian permanent residency, with the per-person cost of obtaining PR being under 19,000 USD.
