Core Policy Adjustments — Reshaping Nova Scotia’s Immigration Rules

The new policy aims to fill local labor gaps, prioritize in-province workers and in-demand occupations. Immigration rules will be adjusted dynamically based on labor market needs and annual quotas.

1. Fixed 12-month Validity Period — Long Waiting Periods Are Over

All new expressions of interest submitted on or after May 1, 2026, will have a 12-month validity period.

●  Candidates not selected within 12 months will be removed from the pool automatically.Applications submitted before May 1, 2024, will expire on May 1, 2026, and can be resubmitted.

● Applications submitted between May 1, 2024 – April 30, 2026, will remain valid until April 30, 2027.

Important note: An EOI is not a formal application. Expiry does not equal rejection, and qualified candidates may re-apply at any time.

2. Three-Tier Occupation Ranking & Strict Restrictions

Nova Scotia has released a clear occupation priority framework, strongly favoring applicants already working within the province.

🔹 Highest Priority (Overseas & Local Applicants Accepted)

 Healthcare workers & skilled trades, TEER 0-4.

 Both overseas candidates and local temporary workers are eligible, with local residents given priority.

🔹 Second Priority (Only for in-province workers)

●  Overseas applications are not accepted. TEER 0-4NOC 2: Natural & Applied Sciences

● NOC 4: Education, Legal, Social & Government Services

● NOC 8: Agriculture, Natural Resources

● NOC 9: Manufacturing & Utilities

🔹 Third Priority (Only for in-province workers)

 All other occupations are limited to TEER 0-2 (Managerial & Professional roles).

 Overseas candidates are not eligible.

 All TEER 5 low-skilled occupations are excluded from priority processing with no nomination pathway.Key reminder:

 Formerly popular TEER 3 occupations are now only approved for healthcare, skilled trades and the four restricted NOC groups.

 General TEER 3 jobs are no longer qualified.Moving forward, Nova Scotia will only select candidates with in-demand jobs, genuine settlement intentions and long-term provincial commitment.
