No IELTS Required—Move to the UK in as Little as Two Months: Discover the UK Fast Track Favored by Executives

Against the backdrop of a rapidly changing global landscape, an increasing number of entrepreneurs and senior executives are turning their attention to the UK. With its world-class British education system, comprehensive NHS healthcare services and excellent opportunities for business expansion,  the UK offers an ideal base from which to grow a business and build a future.

Yet when it comes to UK visas, many people’s first reaction is: “IELTS is just too difficult!” “The investment threshold is far too high!” “Have the rules tightened again?”

Indeed, the UK’s immigration policies have undergone frequent changes in recent years, while salary thresholds have continued to rise. However, many astute business owners and senior executives have already identified a little-known route that can help them avoid many of the usual hurdles while creating a win-win outcome for both their families and their businesses: the Senior or Specialist Worker visa.

In April 2022, the UK Home Office formally introduced the Global Business Mobility visa framework. It replaced the former Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) visa and quickly emerged as a key route for senior managers and specialist professionals seeking to work in the UK.

I.Why are executives flocking to this option? Four standout advantages

For most applicants, the two biggest concerns are the entry requirements and the long-term prospects. The Senior or Specialist Worker visa is often described as a “fast-track route” precisely because it addresses these common concerns:

Advantage 1: No English-language requirement — a stress-free route to the UK for senior executives

This is arguably the scheme’s greatest policy benefit: there is no English-language requirement, meaning applicants do not need to take the IELTS test.

For senior executives and entrepreneurs with demanding schedules and little time to devote to intensive English exam preparation, this is undoubtedly one of the most efficient ways to relocate to the UK.

Advantage 2: A flexible stepping stone towards settlement

Many people ask: “If this visa does not lead directly to settlement, what is the point of applying for it?”

Here is the key point: its real strength lies in its highly flexible switching arrangements.

Provided that the UK company holds a sponsor licence for the Skilled Worker route, and the applicant obtains a B2-level English qualification — equivalent to an IELTS score of 5.5 , they may switch seamlessly to a Skilled Worker visa from within the UK at any time. This allows them to build up the five years of qualifying residence required to apply for settlement in the UK.

There is no statutory waiting period, giving families ample time and flexibility to plan their future.

Advantage 3: Preferential treatment for highly paid executives and an extended period of residence

For applicants earning £73,900 or more per year, the visa offers two important benefits. They may be exempt from the usual requirement to have worked for the overseas parent company for at least 12 months, allowing them to relocate to the UK more quickly.

They may also remain in the UK for up to 9 years in total within a 10 year period, providing sufficient time to establish themselves, develop their business interests and expand their commercial presence in the UK.

Advantage 4: One applicant, full family benefits

The application process is relatively fast, with approval expected within approximately two to six months. Once the visa has been granted, the applicant’s spouse or partner may work full-time in the UK without restriction, while dependent children under the age of 18 may attend UK state schools free of charge. The whole family can also access NHS healthcare.

In other words, it offers a practical way to balance business, immigration status and education—all at the same time.

II.Who is best suited to this fast-track route?

● Pioneers sent to establish a presence in the UK

You hold a key management position at an overseas company and have been assigned to the UK to launch and develop the company’s local market.

● Leaders driving global expansion

Your company has already established a branch or subsidiary in the UK and requires a senior executive to travel there to oversee its operations and strategic development.

● Elite parents who value efficiency and education

You want your children to receive an authentic British education as early as possible, while you need to live lawfully in the UK to accompany and support them—but currently have neither the time nor the inclination to prepare for an IELTS examination. This route may be particularly attractive to middle-class and high-net-worth families in this position.

III. What are the eligibility criteria and requirements?

Compared with investment migration routes that may require investments of several million pounds, the Senior or Specialist Worker visa has more practical requirements. Broadly speaking, these relate to both the applicant and the UK company.

Requirements for the applicant — senior executive or specialist

● Age and work experience: The applicant must be at least 18 years old and must normally have worked for the overseas parent company for at least 12 months before coming to the UK.

Note: Applicants earning £73,900 or more per year may be exempt from this 12-month employment requirement.

● Salary threshold: The annual salary must be at least £52,500 and must also meet the applicable going rate for the relevant occupation in the UK.

● Overseas parent company: The overseas parent company must be actively trading and able to provide complete business records, transaction records and audit materials.

● Medical examination: The applicant must provide a valid tuberculosis test certificate, where required.

Requirements for the UK subsidiary or associated company

● Genuine business operations: The UK branch or subsidiary must already be conducting substantive business activities in the UK.

● Corporate connection: The UK entity and the overseas parent company must have a clear relationship involving control or common ownership, such as a parent-subsidiary relationship or a joint venture.

● Local employee: The UK entity must already employ at least one UK-based employee.
