Austria's 2026 Residence Permit: Pre-Registration is LIVE — Miss It, Wait a Year.

Official announcement on October 16, 2025.

The Austrian Embassy in China has officially announced that the online pre-registration for “the application of a quota based residence permit – without gainful employment 2026” will open from 03.11.2025, 09:00 CET to 09.11.2025, 09:00 CET. Only applicants who successfully obtain a reservation code during this priority appointment booking period will be eligible to log in again between 02.12.2025 and 09.12.2025 to secure an appointment slot at the embassy or consulate for paper submission.

This is a strict two-step process where both stages are mandatory. Appointments are allocated strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.

The reservation code is valid only within the above appointment period and will expire automatically once the window closes. Applicants who fail to secure a slot during the priority period (Dec 2–9) may attempt to book remaining times after 8:00 AM on December 15, 2025, though availability will be extremely limited.

This marks the official opening of annual Niederlassungsbewilligung - ausgenommen Erwerbstätigkeit (quota based residence permit – without gainful employment)—with only 400 slots worldwide. It is no investment required, no employer sponsorship and no language requirement for first-time applicants. This is an affordable pathway to high-quality living in the EU.
