Nothing Beats a Visit Endorsement for Business— Be Hong Kong-Ready in 15 Days!

Have you ever needed to be in Hong Kong at short notice, only to find that your endorsement had already expired? While some business travellers can move between Shenzhen and Hong Kong whenever business calls, others find themselves delayed by travel restrictions and application timelines.

In many cases, the difference comes down to one thing: a Hong Kong Business Visit Endorsement. With processing times as short as 15 working days and greater flexibility for frequent travel, it has become an increasingly popular option for professionals doing business in Hong Kong.

1. What is a Hong Kong Business Visit Endorsement?

Hong Kong Business Visit Endorsement (S) is fundamentally different from the Endorsements for Individual Visits (G). G Endorsements are generally subject to limits on the number of permitted entries and the duration of each stay (typically up to 7 days per visit). By contrast, the Business Visit Endorsement is specifically designed for Mainland Chinese business travellers:

● A maximum stay of up to 14 days per visit, doubled from 7 days;

● Multiple entries and exits are permitted within each stay period;

● For business activities such as negotiations, exhibitions, cargo inspections, and trade fairs;

● Greater compliance flexibility for legitimate business travel;

G Endorsement is for occasional visits, while the S Endorsement is for frequent business travel. It does not change residency status, but provides greater flexibility for regular cross-border movement.

2. Eligibility Requirements

2.1 Enterprise Requirements

The Business Visit Endorsement must be applied for through a qualified enterprise. Individuals cannot apply independently.

Enterprises must meet both of the following requirements:

● Possess independent legal entity status;

● Have paid at least RMB 50,000 in taxes in the previous year (tax certificates required).

2.2 Applicant Requirements

Applicants must fall into one of the following categories:

● Company Legal Representative:

The company’s legal representative may apply directly without providing proof of social insurance contributions.

● Employee:

(1)  At least 6 months of continuous social insurance contributions with the sponsoring company; and

(2)  A genuine employment relationship.

(This programme is available to holders of a Mainland China Resident Identity Card.)

3. Processing Timeline

The typical processing time is around 15–20 working days from application to issuance. If all documents are complete and the filing process goes smoothly, approval may be completed in approximately three weeks.

While timelines may vary depending on corporate filing status and document readiness, the overall process is generally faster than many applicants expect.

4. Advantages of the HK Business Visit Endorsement

4.1 Multiple entries permitted:

Within the validity period (e.g., 3 months or 1 year), holders may enter and exit Hong Kong multiple times.

4.2 Longer stay duration:

Each entry allows a stay of up to 14 days, covering most short-to-medium term business needs.

4.3 Simplified procedures after filing

Once the enterprise has completed the required filing, the documentation required for employee applications is significantly reduced.

4.4 Broad business applicability

Suitable for business meetings, contract signing, bidding, equipment inspection, exhibitions, and related commercial activities.

Unlike ordinary visit endorsements, which limit both the number of permitted visits and the stay duration, the S Endorsement allows multiple entries and exits within the duration of stay, making it particularly suitable for professionals who travel frequently between the Mainland and Hong Kong.

The S Endorsement may be especially suitable for you if you:

● conduct business in Hong Kong, including negotiations, contract signing, or exhibitions, etc.;

● are assigned by your employer to handle business matters in Hong Kong;

● travel frequently between the Mainland and Hong Kong for business purposes

5. Q&A

Q1: Can individuals apply without a company?

No. The S Endorsement must be applied for through a registered enterprise. Individuals cannot apply independently. However, sole proprietors may apply under specific conditions with valid business registration and tax documentation.

Q2: Can I work in Hong Kong with this endorsement?

No. The endorsement does not permit any form of employment in Hong Kong, whether paid or unpaid. It is strictly limited to business-related activities.

Q3: What if I exceed the 14-day stay period?

You should report to the relevant immigration authorities immediately. Failure to do so may affect future applications.

Q4: Is this the same as Hong Kong residency?

A Business Visit Endorsement is a short-term travel authorization for business visits to Hong Kong and does not constitute Hong Kong residency.

Holders are not eligible for a Hong Kong Identity Card, do not have access to local public benefits such as healthcare, education, or housing, and cannot include dependants such as spouses or children under the endorsement. It cannot be directly converted into permanent residency.

For long-term residence or immigration planning, applicants should consider other Hong Kong admission schemes, such as the Top Talent Pass Scheme, Quality Migrant Admission Scheme, or relevant talent admission programmes.

Q5: Do I need to apply in person?

Not necessarily. Eligible applicants may authorise representatives to handle the application process.
