The St.Kitts and Nevis Labour Party Won the General Election

Under the leadership of Dr. Terrance Drew, a Cuban trained medical practitioner, The St.Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) has won the Federal General Elections held on 5th August 2022. The Labour Party now occupy 6 seats out of 11 in the National Assembly, and Dr. Drew is the fourth minister of the country.
The six seats are occupied namely by Dr. Drew Geoffery Hanley, Marsha Henderson, Konris Maynard, Samal Duggins and Denzil Douglas. The other seats will be occupied respectively by Shawn Richards from People’s Acion Movement (PAM), Timothy Harris from the People’s Labour Party (PLP), Mark Brantley, Eric Evely, and Aleix Jeffers all from Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM).
The new minister has said during the election that there is the necessity to free the country from the United Group government, improving the lives of its citizens. The Labour Party has come up with implementation scheme.
Following the dissolution of the former parliament in May 2022, this General Election comes three years earlier than that set out in the Constitution. For the sake of data collecting and quality reports, an official team of observers was sent by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The team was led by the Electoral Commission of Guyana, Sase Gunraj.
The United States has shown public support to the country’s new National Assembly by promising to provide better resources in education, healthcare, and affordable housing for St.Kitts and Nevis.
