Second Passports: Migration Opt Granting More Visa-free Entry, Safer Investment & Enhanced Security
  • Posted 06 Sep ,2019

More than one third of ultra-high-net-worth individuals - people with a net worth of more than USD 30 million - have already obtained a second passport, according to the latest report published by Knight Frank. Acquiring dual citizenship through citizenship-by-investment programs (CIP) now becomes a trend in immigration among worldwide investors due to the increased concerns over visa-free mobility, security of property and personal liberty.

Citizenship-by-Investment Program (CIP), as its name implies, is a common-seen immigration route that allows applicants to acquire citizenship by conducting investment activities. Countries which are small by area and with limited resources sometimes prefers to attract foreign direct investment by offering citizenship-by-investment programs to potential immigrants around the globe. Upon successful application, a legally-obtained second passport will be granted to the applicants.

A second passport, which means dual citizenship, grants its holders more visa-free access, facilitates their investment activities as well as wealth management, and more importantly, frees them from unfree. However, not every country has explicit regulations for a CIP program.

Currently, there are 9 CIP programs in the market that are regarded to be legally reliable and do lead to dual citizenship with a relatively high success rate. These CIP programs are from Antigua, Cyprus, Dominica, Grenada, Malta, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Turkey and Vanuatu respectively.
