The Malaysian Reserve reports that according to the data of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac), Malaysia received 7,904 applications for the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) plan in 2019, which is the highest record since 2012. This staggering number makes MM2H the world's largest immigration program through investment in 2019, much more than the second-ranked the United States Employment-Based Fifth Preference Category (EB-5) Immigrant Investor Visa Program.

The Motac’s Deputy Secretary-General Mohd Zamri Mat Zain said that the largest number of applicants in 2019 were Chinese nationals, accounting for more than 35% of total numbers of approved applicants. Secondly, many are from South Korea, Japan, Bangladesh, the United Kingdom, Singapore, the United States and India and other countries and regions.

Although the MM2H program is one of the most popular residence programs, Mohd Zamri said that in order for the MM2H plan to develop according to its market trends and preferences, the government has to study and develop pull factors to attract future potential markets and more high-quality applicants, as different nationalities have different preferences.

MM2H director Datin Sharifah Ikhlas Syed Ismail AlJaffree revealed that Motac is reviewing some of its policies again to improve its competitiveness, because many countries or regions are also launching similar programs with MM2H.

Malaysia has a high level of modernization and living standards, with a comprehensive medical system and high-quality education, but its living expense is relatively low because owing the rich resources. The MM2H visa has always been favored by immigrants around the world for its easily-met requirements, low risk, few restrictions and fast processing.
