More states close door for BIIP. Australian Immigration demand remains strong despite COVID-19
  • Posted 10 Apr, 2020

Victoria’s subclass 132 and 188 visa nomination program will be paused for the remainder of 2019-20 with effect from 12pm AEST Thursday 9 April 2020, which means that no new nomination applications will be accepted. According to the published processing time, emails received on or before this date will still to be processed. New applications will be accepted in the 2020/21 financial year.

According to information released by Immigration SA on March 23, 2020, due to unprecedented demand, South Australia’s state nominated business visa subclass 188 & 132 program has reached its capacity in the 2019/20 program year. Immigration SA also said that it is currently receiving ‘Intention to Apply’ submissions from interested applicants who plan to apply for South Australian Nomination once the 2020-21 program year opens for applications. The ‘Intention to Apply’ submitted in the first three months after the opening of the 2020/21 program year will be seen early consideration.

On March 18, 2020, New South Wales (NSW) announced that it is closed to applications for nomination under the Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP) because it has exhausted the allocation of nomination applications this plan year and filled the places provided to us by the Commonwealth Department of Home Affairs. All acknowledged applications will be processed as normal. NSW cannot accept BIIP applications sent by email until the new program year begins on July 1, 2020.

Prior to earlier, Queensland announced that the business program for Queensland State Nomination is temporarily closed since December 17, 2019. On March 16, 2020, the ACT has met the 2019/20 allocation of BIIP nomination places and any applications for ACT 188 nomination submitted from this date would not be processed until 1 July 2020.

According to the 2019-20 Migration Program announced by the Department of Home Affairs, the quota for Business Innovation & Investment program (BIIP) is 6,862. Currently, the states that still accept business immigration nominations are Western Australia, and the relatively less popular Northern Territory and Tasmania. Continuous suspensions and closures mean that Australian business immigration methods are widely favored, so competition is becoming increasingly fierce.

If applicants still prefer popular areas such as NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, etc., they can only apply after the new financial year on July 1, which is only 3 months away. For those who aims to immigrate to Australia, they are really running out of time. In this circumstance, once the new financial year starts, the state nomination can be successfully submitted.
